Expanding the World

Expanding the World

March has been a month of expansion.

As the Aurenloch concept continues to develop, a number of international discussions have begun taking place around the project. These conversations are still early, but they are encouraging. One of the ambitions behind Aurenloch has always been to build something that resonates beyond South Africa. A story rooted in our wine history, but told in a way that people anywhere in the world can engage with.

At the same time, the writing process continues to move forward.

Chapter 2 is now in development, and with it the story begins to open up beyond the initial foundations laid in Chapter 1. New tensions are emerging, characters are becoming clearer, and the wider forces shaping the valley are starting to reveal themselves.

Alongside the writing, a large portion of the work remains world building.

This is the hidden layer of the project, developing the Four Earths, refining the Dominions, mapping the structures of power, and aligning the fictional narrative closely with the real historical dynamics of the South African wine industry. The more we work on it, the clearer it becomes that this foundation is critical. The stronger the world behind the story, the more authentic the narrative will feel.

World building is slow work. It requires constant research, iteration, and refinement. But it is also where the deeper meaning of Aurenloch continues to take shape.

The story is growing.

And so is the world behind it.
