Second Dominion

The Second Dominion unfolded during a period of conflict and transition in the Cape. The Battle of Muizenberg in 1795 marked a turning point in the region’s governance and influence, ushering in a new political era.

Through changing authority and the tensions that followed, agriculture and wine production continued to adapt. By the time of the First Boer War in 1881, the Cape’s vineyards had endured decades of uncertainty while steadily maintaining their presence in the region.

Conflict and Transition

The Second Dominion was shaped by conflict and shifting authority. The Battle of Muizenberg in 1795 marked the transfer of control of the Cape and the beginning of a new political era.

Later struggles, including the First Boer War, reflected a period of resistance and uncertainty across the region. Despite these upheavals, viticulture continued to endure and adapt.
