Direct maritime influence is limited given the appellation's inland, elevated position in the Cévennes foothills; its character is shaped far more by its uniform schist geology than by proximity to the coast.
Faugères occupies hilly, sometimes steep terrain at the point where the Cévennes foothills descend toward the Languedoc plain, with schist-covered slopes throughout the appellation.
The Tramontane reaches Faugères as it does much of the Languedoc, helping to dry the naturally free-draining schist soils quickly after any rainfall.
