Pessac-Léognan has a temperate oceanic climate with mild winters, warm summers and an April-to-October growing season. Prevailing Atlantic westerlies and south-westerlies bring ventilation as well as rain-bearing weather systems. The Landes forest reduces some direct western exposure, while open gravel rises remain well ventilated. Wind helps dry canopies, but humid maritime air means airflow does not remove fungal-disease pressure.
Vintage sensitivity is moderate to high. Spring frost, wet flowering, mildew pressure, summer drought or heat, and September–October rainfall can all alter ripening pace and harvest decisions. Gravelly sites drain quickly after rain but can become more water-stressed during prolonged dry periods.
